What is an accidental manager?
The classic scenario runs like this: a highly skilled worker, who has consistently excelled in their role, is rewarded with the added responsibility of a managerial position, but they are not given any further guidance. Their job is entirely different, but without appropriate training to prepare for the role’s shift in focus – from delivery to directing – the manager is being thrown in at the deep end. This is the world of the accidental manager.
According to CMI’s recent Better Managed Britain research, 82% of managers who enter a management role have not had any formal management or leadership training. And, as we’ve seen in recent years, the results can be devastating. Most business failures are down to poor management. We have a crisis of trust in many cherished institutions.

“The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born – that there is a genetic factor to leadership,” said the late Warren Bennis, a US pioneer of leadership studies. “This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That’s nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.”

In-House Management Development

Visionary Leadership Programme
Our Visionary Leadership Programme is a management development programme aimed at experienced and senior managers. It explores management theories and models and how to use these to improve the performance of the team, the organisation and of themselves. It follows the UK’s professional standards and is endorsed by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This means all participants receive a CMI Endorsed Certificate simply for attending. It is delivered in 3 separate full days.
Open Management & Leadership Programmes
People learn best in a social environment, sharing and learning with others. Indeed discussions in our open courses help managers to understand the similarity of challenges across industries and sectors. We deliver these face to face and in online seminars.

Management Apprenticeships
We have added in the learning to vocational qualifications. All our management and leadership apprentices start with an evaluation of the skills they have and the skills they need. From this we incorporate a learning plan that includes online or face to face workshops, elearning modules and self learn. This means they learn the theories of management and how to use these in their practice.
Chartered Management Institute Qualifications
The CMI provide a progressive framework of qualifications from aspirational supervisor to experienced Director. The full range is available and can be delivered online, face to face or in-house. We can also support your employees to achieve the highly coveted Chartered Manager status, an excellent accolade for your organisation.
