How a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship Helped a Highlands Business Owner Embrace Online Strategy

Cherry Ambrose, Director at Ffordes Photographic near Beauly and owner of Tangle Tower, recently completed the Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF Level 6 through Highland Learning Academy.

📈 Why Take on a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship?

Running a family-owned business means wearing many hats from accounting to HR and everything in between. For Cherry, one area where she felt less confident was digital marketing. As the world became more tech-focused, she realised it was time to build her own understanding.

“I initially took the course to understand what the techies were discussing,” Cherry explains. “I struggled with the jargon and wanted to get a clearer understanding of how websites and digital marketing actually work beyond the polished images and catchy text.”

🎓 Learning as a Mature Student

Completing a qualification as an older learner comes with unique challenges. Cherry admits that retaining new digital concepts wasn’t always easy, especially as her daily responsibilities didn’t always allow for practice of the skills she was learning.

However, the support from HLA made all the difference:

“If I became a bit stumped, a short email usually gained a rapid response. Our quarterly reviews also helped keep me on track.”

💡 A Stronger Grasp on Digital Strategy

Now that she’s completed the SCQF Level 6 Digital Marketing Diploma, Cherry feels far more empowered to support her business’s online growth.

  • Improved understanding of marketing terminology
  • Increased confidence in engaging with digital staff and suppliers
  • Ability to support her brand’s online presence with basic marketing techniques

“I’m glad to have another notch on my belt and a better understanding of what happens behind the scenes when it comes to digital marketing,” Cherry says. “Now I just need to make sure I keep using these new skills!”
