The Modern Apprenticeship in Occupational Health & Safety is designed for anyone in Scotland who wants to build a career in protecting people and workplaces—whether you’re just leaving school, switching careers, or already employed and looking to upskill. It’s open to people of all ages and backgrounds, with pathways tailored to roles in workplace safety, risk assessment, compliance, environmental management, and health & safety leadership. Employers can use it to train new recruits or develop existing staff, making it a flexible and inclusive route into one of the country’s most vital professional fields

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

As with all our apprenticeship delivery we provide a range of flexible learning methods which we tailor to suit the needs of the employer and the employee-candidate. This may involve one or a hybrid approach of observations in the workplace, access to online learning, attending face to face courses and collating a portfolio of evidence

Which apprenticeships are available?

Occupational Health & Safety apprenticeships are available at SCQF Level 7. Learners develop skills in workplace safety, risk assessment, and compliance. Tutors will advise whether this is the right entry point or part of a progression into senior health and safety management.

Occupational Health & Safety Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7

The Occupational Health & Safety Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 7 equips learners with the skills and knowledge needed to promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation. Apprentices gain practical experience in carrying out risk assessments, monitoring workplace hazards, supporting accident investigations, and advising on safe systems of work. The programme also develops strong core skills in communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving, alongside meta‑skills such as confidence, adaptability, and responsibility. Supported by their employer and training provider, learners work toward a nationally recognised qualification that prepares them for roles such as health and safety officer, compliance coordinator, or workplace safety supervisor, with clear progression into senior health and safety management positions
