It’s open to people of all ages and backgrounds, with pathways tailored to roles in payroll processing, compliance, pensions administration, and financial reporting. Employers can use it to train new recruits or develop existing staff, making it a flexible and inclusive route into one of the country’s most essential business functions.

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

As with all our apprenticeship delivery we provide a range of flexible learning methods which we tailor to suit the needs of the employer and the employee-candidate. This may involve one or a hybrid approach of observations in the workplace, access to online learning, attending face to face courses and collating a portfolio of evidence

The Payroll Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to manage payroll processes accurately and efficiently within a business. Apprentices gain practical experience in calculating wages, handling statutory deductions, maintaining employee records, and ensuring compliance with employment and tax legislation. The programme also develops strong core skills in communication, problem‑solving, and digital literacy, alongside meta‑skills such as adaptability, confidence, and attention to detail. Supported by their employer and training provider, learners work toward a nationally recognised qualification that prepares them for roles such as payroll administrator, payroll officer, or HR support assistant, with clear progression routes into senior payroll and finance positions
