Key duties and responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering lessons – Create tailored learning plans that align with the student’s goals, curriculum, and learning style.
Assessing progress – Regularly evaluate students’ understanding through informal checks, assignments, or mock exams.
Providing feedback – Offer constructive, timely feedback to help learners improve and stay motivated.
Supporting exam preparation – Help students build confidence and readiness for assessments through revision strategies and practice.
Adapting to individual needs – Recognize different learning styles and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
Encouraging and motivating – Foster a positive learning environment that builds confidence and resilience.
Communicating with stakeholders – Keep parents, guardians, or employers informed of progress and any concerns when appropriate.
Staying up to date – Maintain subject knowledge and stay informed about curriculum changes and teaching best practices.
Application requirements:
Subject knowledge – A degree or strong academic background in the subject you want to tutor is often expected, especially for higher-level or exam-focused tutoring.
Teaching or training experience – While not always essential, experience in education or mentoring can be a big plus.
DBS check (UK) – If you’re working with children or vulnerable adults, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is usually required.
Excellent communication – You’ll need to explain complex ideas clearly and adapt to different learning styles.
Patience and empathy – Supporting learners through challenges requires understanding and encouragement.
Organisation – Planning lessons, tracking progress, and managing time effectively are key.
Adaptability – Every learner is different, so being flexible in your approach is essential.
